STOMP clubs run on weekday evenings and are for primary school children. They are a weekly Christian club and are backed up by community home visits and in some cases parent groups.
The clubs are for children in Y2 – Y6 and they are loud, messy and fun. The children play games, sing songs and listen to a simple, clear message about God. We then visit the kids in their homes during the week with a flyer for the next club. In this way relationships are built up with the whole family.
There are four clubs running during term time across Sheffield. Currently all our clubs are community based. They happen on the Langsett estate, in Firth Park, Shiregreen and Parsons Cross. The clubs are open to all and are a great place for children to find out about God in a safe and fun environment. All our clubs are run by a brilliant team of committed volunteers.
Centrally we run a ‘Supersize Stomp’ at Christmas and Easter where we gather all the clubs together for a big celebration. We also run assemblies in primary schools throughout the year.
Alongside the weekly clubs we also run Stomp + parents groups and community events such as Christmas parties or Easter egg hunts in the school holidays.
As children grow older we encourage them to access our youth work and to get involved in serving at the STOMP clubs as ‘Youth Helpers’. We also encourage families to be involved in the cluster and small group life of the church.
Clusters, communities and other churches can use STOMP as a vehicle of mission. If you would like to find out more about the current clubs or if you are thinking of starting something similar, feel free to contact kaite.smith@stthomaschurch.org.uk
